The UK DB2 User Group is a Working Group of the UK GSE organisation and covers all aspects of DB2 on both the Mainframe and Distributed (LUW) platforms. We welcome anyone interested in DB2, whether Novice or Expert to join us. If you'd like to be added to our mailing list please contact our Membership Secretary, Sue Alder, at alders@visa.com.
The presentation materials from the last User Group Meeting, held on June 19th at IBM Warwick, have now been posted. You can find them arranged in Agenda order on the Meetings Page or by clicking here. The materials are also available arranged by topic on the Tech Info Page.
Our next event will be combined with the 2 day UK GSE Conference, which is being held on October 28th and 29th 2008, once again at the Chesford Grange Hotel between Warwick and Kenilworth. Full details including the Agenda and how to register will be posted here as soon as they are avalaible or you can also check the UK GSE website at www.gse.org.uk.
We're still interested in hearing about any potential topics for the Conference so if you have anything you feel might be of interest please contact our Chairman, Derek Storkey. Don't forget that User speakers now qualify for a Presentation Award of up to £200 so it's definitely worthwhile giving this some thought!
We are also delighted to host a website for members of the Scottish DB2 User Group or SDUG. The Presentation materials from their last meeting on May 1st have now been posted. For these and to find further details please follow the SDUG link at the top of any page.
IBM's Betaworks team have prepared a Technical Education Series on topics related to DB2 9 for z/OS which are available to downloaded from the Web at no charge. Each session contains a Windows Media File containing a recording of the presentation and an Acrobat pdf file of the materials. The Multi- Row sessions also include some sample programs. To find the sessions, start at www.ibm.com/db2 and click on the DB2 for z/OS link in the body of the page. Next, click on the 'Support' link from the box on the left. Finally type "db2 betaworks" in the Search box and click Search. As at the time this page was updated there were 12 sessions available. Many thanks to Paul Fletcher of IBM for providing this information.
As we are affiliated with IDUG as a Regional User Group our members are entitled to a 50 Euro Discount voucher which can be used towards the registration fee for the IDUG 2008 - Europe conference being held in Warsaw, Poland on 13-17, 2008. If you have attended one of our meetings in the past year and are plannnig to register for IDUG and would like one of these vouchers please contact Steve Thomas who in addition to working on our own Commitee is also a member of the IDUG Organizing Committee.
IDUG are holding a competition where DB2 users submit videos for their chance to win a selection of prizes. The Videos should portray day-to-day experiences with DB2, specific successes, or case studies related to DB2. They will be judged in four categories: Humor/Parody, DB2 Success Stories, Documentary/Serious and Going Green with DB2. The competition is only open to IDUG Basic and Premier Members and will run until August 22nd 2008, with winners being announced at the IDUG 2008 - Europe conference, being held in Warsaw, Poland on 13-17, 2008. Winners will also be notified via email. Prizes for the winner of each category include: iPod Touches, free Premier Memberships, and full IDUG conference registrations. Winning entries will be placed on IDUG's Online Learning Center, available for free download by all IDUG members worldwide. For complete details on how to submit content for this competition, visit www.IDUG.org/viedocomp.
Following feedback from those attending our March meeting we are offering up to two optional 15 minute slots during the lunch break of our own meetings (i.e. not the UK GSE Conference) where Vendors and Consulting companies can explain new offerings which might be of interest. Please follow this link for more details.
The group would like to hear from you if you have had any interesting experiences with DB2, whether with new or little used functions, or perhaps using well known functions in a novel way. Remember you don't have to prepare a full length session - contributions of any length are always welcome and if you're a User you may qualify for one of our new Presentation Awards of up to £200. The audience is guaranteed to be a friendly one, and there's no better way of raising your profile in the industry and showing off your achievements.
If you have any experience that you feel could be of interest please contact either Derek Storkey or Phil Nelson. Derek and Phil would also like to hear from you if you have any suggestions on future presentation topics which might be of interest, and we'll do our best to find a suitable speaker.
If you would you like to assist with the organisation and running of our group, and have the commitment, enthusiasm and time to participate, we'd love to hear from you. Details of the current committee can be found here - please feel free to contact any of us if you would like to volunteer or if you have any questions or issues.
Please email our webmaster, steve_thomas@bmc.com with questions or comments about this web site.
